EUM Mission Trips 2016

EUM's vision for ministry is built on the values of worship, connect and SERVE!  Student life has a strong legacy of mission work within and outside of the United States.  The summer of 2016 is another chapter in this rich history as we invite Jesus to use us to be his hands and feet both close to home and abroad.  This year we are taking a step of faith and inviting EUM to send and support two mission trip teams.  Our first team is being called to one of the the most culturally diverse zip codes in the United States, that also happens to be just an hour south of us in Chicago Illinois.  Our second team is crossing international lines and serving with a dynamic and mission minded church in Cuidad Sandino, Nicaragua.  We are excited by the opportunities in front of us and invite you to consider how you can support these mission endeavors.

Chicago Mission Trip

Introduction:  Our Chicago mission trip is designed to be a mission/service learning lab.  This week long experiences takes students who have served at places like FMSC, Halo, and Serve FX, and offers them the opportunity to go deeper in their understanding and application of christian service.  We have chosen to serve with Center for Student Mission (CSM).  This nationwide organization specializes in the facilitation of urban service work and cultural engagement.  We are excited to partner with an organization like CSM because of their approach to service.  Students will not only be able to serve in a variety of locations, but will also be given opportunities to learn about the history and the cultural diversity of the neighborhoods that we will be serving.  The area that we will focus our service in is located in one of the most diverse zip codes in the United States.  Our travel may be short, but students will be exposed to a very global experience.

Who is this mission trip for?  This mission trip is designed for our incoming freshman, sophomore and juniors.  Those outgoing juniors and seniors who are unable to participate in the international mission trip are also invited to attend this trip.

Service Options:  CSM has hundreds of organizations within the city that they partner with for groups like ours.  As we get closer to the summer, and as the composition of the group solidifies we will have a better idea of what kind of projects are available to us.  Most service projects are accessible to all students and do not require pre-existing skills.

Dates:  June 12th-18th

Cost:  $500  (covers all food, transportation, housing and work projects) *This cost can be reduced through Dessert Derby participation and through the sending of support letters.

Nicaragua Mission Trip

Introduction: The mission team and Student Life staff spent several months prayerfully looking for the best focus and location for an international mission trip.  Specifically we were looking for an organization that would not only host a service experience, but would also put us in a partnership with an existing church that is doing dynamic ministry in their community. This summer we will serve through a short term mission organization called "Merge."  It was in our conversation with Merge that we were introduced to Iglesia Maranatha in Cuidad Sandino, Nicaragua.  As this church/ministry was described to us we immediately felt a strong sense that this was the right location to join what God is already doing in that community.

Who is this mission trip for?    This mission trip is open to our outgoing high school juniors and seniors as well as invested adults in the congregation.  We are looking for adults in the congregation that want to serve on a mission trip experience while also desiring to invest in the lives of our high school students.

Service Options: Youth Ministry, Children's Ministry, Community meal, construction, education and more.

Desired Participant Skills: youth ministry, discipleship, evangelism, leadership development, children's ministry, crafting, community development, party planning, construction (specifically bathrooms/tile), painting, general teaching skills and coaching.
